Artist Francis Leenaerts regularly works with mirror-finish stainless steel for his sculptural projects. A distinctive material that does more than simply reflect its surroundings: it distorts, fragments and continuously reinterprets them.
For his larger creations, Francis relies on Deprest. In our workshop, the metal elements gradually take on their final shape under our presses.
The combination of pressing force, material behaviour and craftsmanship creates organic reliefs that react differently to light and space. No two surfaces are identical, and every viewing angle gives the work a different appearance.
After shaping, the individual elements are brought together to form one monumental whole.
A unique project at the intersection of art, engineering and metalworking, and a great illustration of what becomes possible when artistic freedom and industrial expertise reinforce each other.
